Howie is where it all began. He was rescued 15 years ago from PetSmart, and from the moment he came home, he became family. Howie is gentle, loving, and has the sweetest soul, the kind of cat that makes you fall in love with cats all over again. He’s the heart behind Howie’s Hope, and the reason this mission exists today.

Sebastian was rescued from Grand Strand Animal Rescue and quickly made himself at home. He’s big, he’s sleepy, and he’s as sweet as can be. Whether he’s lounging around or just quietly keeping you company, Sebastian brings a calm, loving presence wherever he is.

Sassafras was the very first community cat. She lives at the police station, where she’s found her own little safe haven and a community that looks out for her. Despite her beginnings, Sassafras is incredibly sweet and gentle, always ready for a little love and attention. She’s a reminder of why Howie’s Hope exists: even the smallest acts of care can change a life and create a place where every cat feels safe, seen, and loved.

Chester and Bailey are part of a local community cat colony we’ve been caring for every single day for the past year and a half. They are both fixed and now have a safe place to eat, rest, and stay protected, especially during storms. Watching them grow more comfortable and cared for over time has been incredibly rewarding. They may be outdoor cats, but they are deeply loved.

Millie’s story is one of resilience. When she was first found, she was badly injured, with a wound along her spine, missing fur on her tail, and staples in her neck. She was scared, fragile, and unsure of the world around her. After being trapped and treated, we couldn’t let her go back out there. Millie became part of our family. Today, she’s safe, healing, and finally getting the life she always deserved.

Lester's story is proof that patience and love can change everything. After spending so much time outside, we were finally able to trap him and get him to the humane society, where he is now safe and receiving the care he needs, including getting neutered. Even sweeter than we imagined, Lesler has shown everyone how gentle and loving he is. He is now available for adoption and ready for the forever home he's always deserved.

Mustachio is a little wanderer who shows up whenever he is hungry or wants a familiar facxe. No one knows exactly where he came from, but we always make sure there is food waiting for him. Mustachio never stays long. He eats, hangs around, and then heads back out on his next adventure. Even the most independent cats know when they have found someone they can trust.

Smudge and three other tuxedo kittens were living underneath a house in Florence when I found them. Their mom was nowhere to be found. I kept smudge and brought the other three to the humane society so they could find safe, loving homes.

Brinkley was a kitten who lived near a dumpster at an apartment complex where I used to live. She would sometimes run into my apartment, eat, and then dart back outside. One night, she showed up limping with a badly broken back leg. The vet said she had likely been kicked or stepped on. After surgery to repair the two breaks, Brinkley became my indoor kitty and went on to live a long, healthy life.
